From Pregnancy to Motherhood – With Care and Kindness
The term "Doula" derives from ancient Greek meaning "a woman who serves". In traditional cultures, new mothers were surrounded by nurturing care, which facilitated their healing, bonding, and breastfeeding without additional stress. Doulas are trained non-medical professionals who offer continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a woman and her partner before, during, and after childbirth.
A study released in 2012 identified that women who had support from a doula were:
More likely to have a spontaneous labour
Less likely to need synthetic oxytocin
Less likely to request an epidural or drugs
More likely to be satisfied with their birth
More likely to have shorter labours
Less likely to have a caesarean
Less likely to have an instrumental birth (forceps & vacuum)
Less likely to have a baby with low Apgar scores.
Every doula is different, but we all share one thing in common: we want you to have the best pregnancy and birth experience, so you can start your journey into motherhood with serenity and love.
Originally from France, I immigrated to New Zealand in 2014. Here, I met my amazing husband, and together we have three wonderful children.
Becoming a mum changes a woman in many ways. For me, it gave me a new perspective on motherhood. We were never meant to navigate this journey alone. At first, I thought of becoming a midwife, but I realised I wasn’t interested in the medical side of pregnancy and birth. While hospitals, doctors, and nurses are essential and save many lives, they can also overshadow how extraordinary the female body is. We often forget the strength, power, and mindset we possess. Having a baby should not be seen as a risk; it is a celebration. We've been doing it forever, we know.
In Aotearoa, 1 in 3 women experiences birth trauma—that’s 50 women a day, every single day.
We deserve better. You deserve better.
You deserve to trust your body, know your options, and make informed choices.
You deserve to be respected, heard, cared for, and nurtured.
The way you feel about the birth of your baby and how you are treated will have a significant impact on your postpartum experience and journey into motherhood. I believe that happier mums lead to happier children, and therefore, happier individuals.
"To change the world, we must first change the way babies are born" Michel Odent
As a doula, my role is to help you release and let go of anything that does not serve you in a positive way. Think of me as your birth best friend—the one you come to with questions, doubts, fears, and joy. I’ll be the one who supports you, no matter how you decide to birth your baby. I will honour you and encourage you every step of the way.
